EMMANUEL

Emmanuel, a rare event,
I’ve come to you to give you thanks.
I’ve cast off all my doubts and woes
and all my other mourning clothes
‘cause you, who’ve been so dead to me
have breathed in me your life.
And I would sell a lifetimes pleasure
for this one moments field of treasure.
What cost to me a thousand deaths
compared to this, your Spirit’s breath?
‘cause you who’ve been so cold to me
have burned in me your fire.
And when you’re gone again from me
and hope has taken flight
I’ll grasp hold of this memory
to warm my winter’s night.
