This was originally intended as a song but somehow the tune never got added.

BAREFOOT IN THE STREAM
It sparkled and it shimmered and it called to me
a myriad of promises of how my life could be.
Yet when I cupped my hands in to take some for my own
it trickled through my fingers, in seconds it was gone.
So I’m barefoot in the stream.
It’s tumbling round my feet.
I’m standing in the Father’s love
‘cause nothing can compete
with His joy
and His hope
and a life in Him complete.
I could have stood for ever on the bank of my dreams
And only dipped my fingers in to grasp at “might have beens”.
I could have let the fear in me quench the fire inside
but the spirit kept on calling and wouldn’t be denied.
So I took of my shoes and I took off my socks
and I cast off my doubts
and I held the hand of perfect love
and I stepped out.
So I’m barefoot in the stream.
It’s tumbling round my feet.
I’m standing in the Father’s love
‘cause nothing can compete
with His joy
and His hope
and a life in Him complete.
Sometimes I want to run from here and shake off every drop
And don the tatters of my old life left drying on the rocks.
But Jesus calls me deeper in to places I’ve not known,
Drowning in the depths of love, upheld by Him alone.
So I’m barefoot in the stream.
It’s tumbling round my feet.
I’m standing in the Father’s love
‘cause nothing can compete
with His joy
and His hope
and a life in Him complete.
